Tohatsu Outboard Motors
No Tohatsu outboards are on the floor right now. Tell us what you are after and we will source it. Every engine is authorized dealer stock, crated for freight and shipped to all 48 states with factory warranty registered in your name.
Tohatsu is the value line in the range and the lightest in the portable classes, which is what makes it the usual choice for a tender or a sailboat auxiliary. Filter by horsepower and shaft length to match your transom.

Reading a Tohatsu model code
MFS is the four stroke line and M is the older two stroke. The number is the horsepower, then S is a fifteen inch short shaft, L a twenty inch long shaft and XL a twenty five inch extra long. E is electric start, F is power trim, T is tiller. Match the shaft letter to your transom height, since the portables are commonly sold short shaft.
Weight in the portable classes
Tohatsu builds the lightest engines in the smaller classes, which is the whole argument for the brand on a tender or a sailboat bracket. A 2.5hp at seventeen kilograms can be lifted onto a transom by one person over the side of a dinghy. That is not true of every 2.5hp on the market.
Shared engineering
Tohatsu builds outboards for other brands as well as its own, and the mid range shares engineering with engines sold under better known names at higher prices. Parts availability and dealer coverage in the United States are good, and the service intervals are the same as the equivalent brands.
Warranty and dealer service
New Tohatsu outboards carry a five year factory limited warranty for recreational use, registered in your name on the day of dispatch. Commercial use is one year. Warranty work is carried out at any authorized Tohatsu dealer in the United States.

The MFS2.5 to MFS6 in short shaft. They are the lightest in class, which matters when the engine is lifted on and off by hand.
