Used Yamaha F200 200HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Yamaha F200 200HP four stroke outboard for sale online, on a 25 inch extra long shaft and shipped nationwide. The Yamaha 200HP outboard is the step up from the 150 that most offshore singles and heavier center consoles actually want, and on the used market it is frequently the better value of the two: demand concentrates on the 150, which leaves the 200 sitting at a price that does not reflect the extra fifty horsepower. Order this Yamaha F200 for sale from this page, or send us your transom height and hull model and we will confirm the fit before you pay. It ships crated on curbside freight, with the serial number listed on this page on the invoice.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an extra long shaft, 25in.
Buy a used Yamaha F200 outboard: more engine for the money
The used market prices outboards on demand, not on output, and demand piles into the 150 band because that is what most hulls are rated for. The result is that a used Yamaha F200 for sale often lists close to, and sometimes below, an equivalent F150.
If your capacity plate allows 200 horsepower, that is free performance. The same hull will plane quicker loaded, cruise at lower revs and work the engine less hard doing it, which is the argument for buying at the top of your rating rather than the middle.
It is worth doing the arithmetic properly before you settle on a 150 by default. Check the plate first, because overpowering a hull is not a saving of any kind.

Yamaha 200HP outboard for sale: what it suits
Two hundred horsepower on a 25 inch transom is offshore single territory: center consoles from about 22 to 26 feet, heavier bay boats, and walkaround hulls that carry weight.
It is also the size that makes sense when you fish loaded. Four people, fuel, ice and tackle change what a hull needs to get up and stay there, and a 200 does it at lower revs than a 150 working at the top of its range.
Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate, then buy as close to it as your budget allows rather than defaulting to the middle of the range.
Buying a used Yamaha F200 near me, or online
A 25 inch F200 is a configuration local yards rarely hold. Searching used Yamaha F200 near me mostly turns up whatever came in on trade, in whatever shaft length that boat happened to run.
Order online and the whole national market is open. This one ships crated on curbside liftgate freight, quoted by weight and destination.
If you want to cross shop, the 2013 Yamaha F225 sits one step up, and the rest of the range is on Yamaha outboard motors.
What to check on any used Yamaha 200HP outboard
Four things, on this engine or anywhere else you shop.
- Compression on every cylinder, written down rather than described.
- Hours read from the ECU, not from a dash gauge or an estimate.
- The midsection, transom bracket and trim rams, where salt damage shows first.
- What is included. Controls, harness, prop and gauges cost real money bought separately.
Repowering from a two stroke to a Yamaha F200
A large share of F200 sales replace an older two stroke of similar output, and the swap is not quite like for like.
Weight is the first thing to check. A four stroke at 200 horsepower is heavier than the two stroke it replaces, and on an older transom that changes how the boat sits at rest and how it carries weight aft. Look at the boat on the trailer before and after if you can.
Rigging is the second. A two stroke era harness and gauges will not talk to a modern four stroke, so budget for controls and instruments rather than assuming they carry over.
The payoff is fuel and noise. A four stroke at cruise burns considerably less and does it quietly enough to hold a conversation, which on a long run offshore is not a small thing.
Frequently asked questions
Is a used Yamaha F200 better value than an F150?
Frequently, yes. Demand concentrates on the 150 band because that is what most hulls are rated for, which leaves the 200 underpriced relative to its output. If your capacity plate allows 200 horsepower, it is usually the better buy.
What size boat needs a Yamaha 200HP outboard?
Typically a 22 to 26 foot center console, a heavier bay boat or a walkaround, as a single. Check the maximum rating on your transom capacity plate before ordering and stay at or under it.
Is the Yamaha F200 a four stroke?
Yes. This engine is a four stroke. Yamaha has built two strokes at 200 horsepower under different model designations, so check what a listing is actually describing before you compare prices.
Will a 25 inch Yamaha F200 fit my transom?
Only if your transom measures about 25 inches from the top straight down to the hull bottom at the centerline. Twenty inches needs a long shaft engine instead. Send the measurement and hull model and we will confirm.
How do I know the hours on a used Yamaha F200?
From the ECU, which stores them independently of any dash gauge. We read it before the engine ships and will send you the figure along with compression on every cylinder if you ask.
