Used Suzuki DF140 140HP Outboard for Sale

Buy a used Suzuki DF140 140HP four stroke outboard for sale online, a 2019 engine on a 20 inch long shaft with 360 recorded hours, electric start, remote steering and power trim and tilt. The DF140 sits just below the 150 band that everybody shops, which is where its value comes from: ten horsepower less, a noticeably lower price, and on most hulls a difference you would struggle to feel. Three hundred and sixty hours on a six year old four stroke is ordinary recreational use and leaves the majority of the engine unspent. Order this used Suzuki DF140 from the page, or send us the hull model and transom measurement and we will confirm the fit before you pay.

Supplied with

  • Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
  • Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
  • Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
  • Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
  • First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil

Not sure on shaft length

Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.

Buy a used Suzuki DF140 instead of a 150

Almost everyone shopping this band searches for a 150, because that is the round number and what most capacity plates allow. That concentration is what makes the 140 worth looking at.

Ten horsepower on a bay boat or a mid size console is a fraction of a knot at the top end and nothing you would notice at cruise. The price difference is not a fraction of anything.

The one case where it matters is a heavily loaded hull at the top of its rating, where the 150 has headroom the 140 does not. If you fish four up with a full tank, take the 150. Otherwise the DF140 does the same job for less.

Is 360 hours a lot on a Suzuki DF140

No. On a four stroke rated to run past 3,000 hours, 360 across six seasons is normal recreational use and leaves the great majority of the engine ahead of it.

What matters more is whether it ran in salt and whether it was flushed. Ask for compression on all four cylinders and look at the midsection, transom bracket and trim rams in the photographs. We will send more of any area you want.

What boats take a Suzuki DF140

Bay boats, mid size center consoles from about 18 to 21 feet, and larger pontoons. A 20 inch shaft points at a standard rather than an offshore transom.

Check your capacity plate before you order and measure the transom from the top straight down to the hull bottom at the centerline. If you measure 25 inches, you need an extra long shaft engine instead.

Servicing a Suzuki: what to line up first

Suzuki dealer coverage is thinner than Mercury or Yamaha, so on any Suzuki purchase the sensible first step is finding out who near you works on them.

It is usually not a problem. Independent marine mechanics handle Suzuki routinely and parts are available through the dealer network and the aftermarket. But it is worth a phone call before you buy rather than after.

The engines themselves are undemanding: oil and filter, gear oil, plugs, impeller and anodes on a schedule, all of which any competent mechanic can do.

Where a dealer matters is diagnostics on the electronics. Establish where that is and the ownership question is answered, which is exactly what the money you saved on the badge was for.

Frequently asked questions

Suzuki DF140 or DF150: which should I buy?

On most hulls the difference is barely perceptible and the price gap is not. Take the 150 only if you regularly run heavily loaded at the top of your rating.

Is 360 hours high for a 2019 Suzuki DF140?

No, it is normal recreational use across six seasons. On an engine rated past 3,000 hours most of the life is still ahead. Salt exposure and service history matter more.

Is the Suzuki DF140 a reliable outboard?

It has a solid record. Suzuki four strokes are durable with ordinary servicing, and the DF140 is one of the more common engines in this band on the used market.

What size boat is a Suzuki DF140 for?

Usually a bay boat or center console from 18 to 21 feet, or a larger pontoon. Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate before ordering.

Will this 20 inch Suzuki DF140 fit my boat?

Only if the transom measures about 20 inches from the top down to the hull bottom at the centerline. Offshore hulls usually measure 25. Send the measurement and we will confirm.

Shipping and crating

The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.

Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.

Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.

The serial number on this listing, 11F-9568207, is the unit that ships to you. It appears on your invoice and on the warranty registration.
