Used 2015 Yamaha 300HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Yamaha 300HP four stroke outboard for sale online, a 2015 engine on the hard to find 30 inch offshore shaft. Thirty inches is the length almost nobody shops for and a small number of buyers desperately need: it suits tall transom offshore hulls, bracketed installations and the outer engines on some large multi rigs, and there is no substitute for it short of rebuilding the transom. If your boat measures 30 inches, a used Yamaha 300 outboard in this shaft length is worth ordering when you find one rather than waiting to see what turns up locally. Send the hull model and the transom measurement and we will confirm the fit before you pay.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an offshore shaft, 30in.
Buy a 30 inch Yamaha 300 outboard: the shaft length nobody stocks
Outboards are built in three common lengths and one uncommon one. Fifteen, twenty and twenty five inches cover almost every boat in the country. Thirty inches covers the rest, and dealers stock accordingly.
That is why a 30 inch Yamaha 300HP outboard for sale is worth acting on. It is not that they are rare to manufacture, it is that nobody holds them, so the ones that reach the used market get bought by whoever is looking that week.
It is also why they represent value. An engine that fits fewer boats attracts fewer bidders, and a 30 inch outboard usually lists below the 25 inch version of the same motor. If your transom takes it, that discount is yours.

What boats take a 30 inch Yamaha 300
Tall transom offshore hulls, boats running a setback bracket that lifts the engine, and the outer positions on some large multi engine rigs.
Measure before you order, because guessing at this length is expensive. Top of the transom straight down to the hull bottom at the centerline. Thirty inches takes this engine; twenty five takes the 2021 Yamaha 300HP instead. The full chart is on the long shaft outboard motors page.
Used Yamaha 300 outboard for sale: what to check
A 300 works harder than anything smaller on the same boat, so the checks matter more, not less.
- Compression across all six cylinders, written down.
- Hours from the ECU rather than a dash gauge.
- Midsection, transom bracket and trim rams for salt corrosion.
- Whether controls, harness, prop and gauges are included, because at this size they are a significant extra.
Ask for photographs of any of those areas and we will send them before you commit.
Buying a 30 inch Yamaha 300 online and having it shipped
An engine this size is a freight job rather than a delivery, and the shaft length makes the crate longer than most carriers handle every day.
It ships crated and upright on a pallet, curbside on a liftgate truck, quoted by weight and destination. Parcel carriers do not take engines of this size at any price.
What to arrange at your end: somewhere the truck can get to, and a way to move the crate once it is on the ground. A 300 on a pallet is not a two person lift, and a tractor, a forklift or a dealer delivery is the sensible answer.
If the engine is going to an installer rather than your address, tell us and we will send it there directly, which usually saves handling it twice.
Frequently asked questions
What boats take a 30 inch Yamaha 300HP?
Tall transom offshore hulls, boats running a setback bracket, and the outer engines on some large multi rigs. It is the least common shaft length, which is why dealers rarely hold one.
Is a 30 inch Yamaha 300 cheaper than a 25 inch?
Usually, yes. Fewer boats take it so fewer buyers compete for it, and the price reflects that rather than any difference in the engine. If your transom measures 30 inches, that is a genuine saving.
Can I fit a 30 inch Yamaha 300 on a 25 inch transom?
It will run, but the gearcase drags and costs you speed and fuel. It is not dangerous the way a too short shaft is, but it is never the right order. Buy the length your transom measures.
How many hours are on this Yamaha 300?
The listing did not state a figure, so none is quoted here. Hours are read from the ECU before an engine ships and we will send you the reading and compression figures on request.
What size boat needs a Yamaha 300HP outboard?
Usually a 26 to 30 foot offshore hull as a single, or one of a pair on larger boats. Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate before you order.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
