Used Yamaha F300 300HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Yamaha F300 300HP V6 outboard for sale online, a 2024 engine on a 30 inch offshore shaft. Six hundred and twenty hours on a one year old engine is worth explaining rather than glossing over: it means the boat worked, most likely commercially or as a charter, and that pattern of use is not the disadvantage it sounds. Engines that run regularly and get serviced on a commercial schedule tend to be in better internal condition than weekend boats that sit for months. This Yamaha F300 for sale has the hours and the year to prove both. Send us the transom measurement and hull model and we will confirm the fit before you pay.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an offshore shaft, 30in.
A used Yamaha F300 with 620 hours in one year: read this first
Six hundred and twenty hours in a single season is commercial use. There is no point pretending otherwise, and it changes how you should evaluate the engine.
The instinct is to walk away. The reality is more interesting. An engine that ran nearly every day was started warm, run at consistent load and serviced on a schedule somebody was paid to keep, because downtime cost money. Compare that with a private boat that ran twenty hours a year and sat for the other eleven months with fuel going stale in the tank.
What you should check is exactly what you would check anywhere: compression on every cylinder, hours from the ECU, and the state of the midsection and trim rams. Ask for the service record too, because on a commercially used engine there usually is one.
On a four stroke rated past 3,000 hours, 620 leaves roughly eighty percent of the engine unused.

Buy a Yamaha F300 on a 30 inch offshore shaft
Thirty inches narrows the field considerably. It suits tall transom offshore hulls and bracketed installations, and it is the hardest length to find on the used market because nobody stocks it speculatively.
If your boat takes 30 inches, that scarcity works for you on price and against you on availability. Order when you find one. If your transom measures 25 inches, look at the 2021 Yamaha 300HP instead.
Yamaha F300 price against a new one
A current model year engine at a used price is the largest single saving available in outboards, and the hours are what makes it possible. You are buying the depreciation of somebody else running a business.
Ask whether any balance of factory cover remains on this unit. On a commercially used engine the terms often differ from recreational cover, so it is worth confirming rather than assuming.
Buying an ex commercial outboard sensibly
Engines that worked for a living are the best value on the used market and the least understood, so it is worth setting out how to judge one.
Ask for the maintenance record first. A boat that earned money had downtime costs, so servicing was usually done on time and documented. That record is worth more than a low hour reading on an unknown private engine.
Ask what the work was. Charter and dive operations run consistent loads at consistent speeds, which is easy duty. Towing, heavy commercial use or constant shallow running is harder, and the gearcase and midsection will show it.
Then check the ordinary things: compression, corrosion at the midsection and trim rams, and whether it was flushed. If those are good, the hours are just a number.
Frequently asked questions
Is 620 hours too many on a 2024 Yamaha F300?
It is high for the year, which means commercial or charter use. That is not automatically bad: engines that run regularly on a kept service schedule are often in better internal shape than weekend boats that sit. On an engine rated past 3,000 hours, 620 leaves most of the life intact.
Should I avoid an ex charter Yamaha F300?
Not on principle. Ask for the service record, compression on every cylinder and photographs of the midsection. A documented commercial engine beats an undocumented private one, and the price difference is real.
What boats take a 30 inch Yamaha F300?
Tall transom offshore hulls and boats running a setback bracket. It is the least common shaft length and the hardest to find, so measure your transom before assuming you need it.
Is the Yamaha F300 a V6?
Yes, a V6 four stroke. It is the engine most offshore singles in the 26 to 30 foot range are repowered with, and it is very commonly run as one of a pair on larger boats.
Does this F300 still have factory warranty?
That depends on the unit and how it was registered, and commercial use often carries different terms from recreational. Ask us to confirm what remains before you order.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
