Used 2017 Yamaha F60 60HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Yamaha F60 60HP tiller outboard for sale online, a 2017 four stroke on a 20 inch long shaft with 200 recorded hours, electric start and power trim and tilt. A tiller engine at 60 horsepower is close to the practical ceiling for hand steering, and it is a configuration serious shallow water fishermen go looking for: the deck stays completely clear, and standing at the stern with the engine in your hand gives control in skinny water no helm position matches. This is a later model year than the other F60 here and it is the cheaper of the two. Order it from the page, or send your hull model and transom measurement and we will confirm the fit first.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
A 60HP tiller outboard: who buys one and why
Sixty horsepower steered by hand is a deliberate choice and the people who make it have specific boats.
Flats boats, duck boats, river hulls and jon boats, where the deck space is the point and where the boat runs shallow enough that you want to feel what the engine is doing.
Standing at the stern with the tiller in hand gives you control in skinny water that a console cannot match, and the weight of the operator sits where a shallow hull wants it.
What you give up is comfort on a long run and any protection from weather. If the boat crosses open water regularly, the 2007 Yamaha F60 with remote steering is the same engine set up for that instead.

Power trim on a tiller engine matters at this size: a 60 is heavy enough that tilting it by hand every launch is a job you would rather not have.
Is 200 hours high on a 2017 F60
No. Eight seasons at 200 hours is light recreational use, and on an engine rated past 3,000 hours it leaves the great majority unspent.
What matters more is whether it ran in salt and whether it was flushed. Flats and river boats often run in brackish or salt water, so look hard at the midsection and trim rams in the photographs and ask about the flushing routine.
We record compression before listing and will send you the figures on all four cylinders.
Buying a tiller engine at this size
One check that does not apply to remote engines: work the throttle grip and shift through their full range. A stiff or notchy tiller arm means worn linkage, and on a used engine that repair is worth knowing about before you pay.
Ask for a photograph of the tiller arm and grip. We will send it.

Running a Yamaha F60 tiller all day
A tiller engine at 60 horsepower is genuinely usable, but the difference between a good setup and a poor one is in the details rather than the engine.
A tiller extension is the cheapest improvement available. It moves you forward off the transom, which trims a small hull better, keeps you drier and puts your weight where the boat wants it rather than right at the back.
Throttle friction is the second. Set properly it holds a cruise without you gripping it, which is the difference between an hour at the helm being fine and being tiring.
And check the shift and steering friction adjustments while you are at it. Most owners never touch them, and most tiller boats would handle better if they did.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Yamaha F60 too big for a tiller outboard?
It is near the practical ceiling but well within it, particularly with power trim. Above about 60 the steering loads and transom weight push most buyers to remote steering.
Why buy a Yamaha F60 tiller rather than remote?
Deck space and control. Flats, duck and river boats want the center of the boat clear, and standing at the stern gives feel in shallow water that a console cannot match.
Is 200 hours a lot for a 2017 Yamaha F60?
No, that is light recreational use across eight seasons. On an engine rated past 3,000 hours most of the life remains. Salt exposure matters more than the meter.
What should I check on a used Yamaha F60 tiller?
Everything you would check on any engine, plus the tiller arm itself. Work the throttle grip and shift through the full range. Stiffness means worn linkage and a real repair bill.
Does this Yamaha F60 tiller have power trim?
Yes, which matters on a tiller engine at this size. A 60 is heavy enough that tilting by hand at every launch gets old quickly.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
