Used 2019 Yamaha 425 XTO Offshore 425HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Yamaha 425 XTO Offshore 425HP V8 outboard for sale online, a 2019 engine on a 25 inch extra long shaft. The XTO Offshore is the largest outboard Yamaha builds and it was designed around a specific job: powering big offshore hulls in twos, threes and fours, with the electrical output, the thrust and the integrated steering that those installations need. Buying a used Yamaha 425 XTO is not a small engine purchase scaled up. Rigging, controls, charging and steering all have to be planned, which is why we would rather talk before you order. Send us the boat and what is on the transom now.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an extra long shaft, 25in.
Buy a used Yamaha 425 XTO Offshore
The XTO sits at the top of the outboard market and it is bought by people repowering large offshore boats, usually with more than one engine.
What separates it from a 300 or a 350 is not just output. It was engineered for the demands of big multi engine installations: electrical generation for a boat full of systems, integrated electric steering rather than hydraulic, and the thrust to move genuinely heavy hulls.
That means it is not a drop in replacement for something smaller. If you are stepping up to XTO power, the rigging plan matters as much as the engine, and it is worth settling before anything ships.

What boats run a Yamaha 425 XTO
Large offshore center consoles and sportfishing hulls from the mid thirties upward, almost always in multiples. A single XTO turns up on boats that were rigged for more and on hulls that need maximum single engine thrust.
If you are buying one of a set, rotation and control architecture have to match what is already there. Send us the details of the existing engines before ordering.
Yamaha 425 XTO price on the used market
The XTO holds value better than almost anything else on a transom, because the boats they came off are expensive and the engines are in demand for repowers.
Hours matter less than installation history at this level. An engine that came off a well kept boat with a documented service record is worth a premium over an identical one with an unknown past, and at this price that premium is worth paying.
There is a second 425 XTO in stock, the 2023 Yamaha 425 XTO Offshore, which carries roughly half these hours on a more recent year.
Servicing a Yamaha XTO: what to line up first
An engine at the top of the range needs a plan for who maintains it, and that is worth settling before the engine arrives rather than at the first service.
XTO engines use integrated electric steering and a high output charging system, neither of which is a conventional outboard arrangement. Diagnosis needs a Yamaha dealer with current software, not a general marine mechanic with a multimeter.
Find out where the nearest capable dealer is, and whether they will take on an engine they did not sell. Most will, but on a boat this size it is not a question you want to be asking after something stops working.
Service intervals themselves are ordinary. It is the diagnostic capability that needs locating in advance.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Yamaha XTO Offshore?
It is Yamaha largest outboard line, a V8 built for big offshore hulls in multi engine installations, with high electrical output and integrated electric steering rather than a conventional hydraulic setup.
Is 400 hours high on a Yamaha 425 XTO?
No. On an engine of this size and rating, 400 hours across several seasons is early life. Installation and service history matter far more than the meter at this level.
What size boat needs a Yamaha 425 XTO?
Large offshore center consoles and sportfishing hulls from the mid thirties upward, usually running two, three or four engines rather than one.
Can I fit a Yamaha XTO in place of a smaller outboard?
Not as a straight swap. Steering, controls, charging and transom rating all need checking, because the XTO was designed around a different installation standard. Talk to us with the boat details before ordering.
Does the Yamaha XTO hold its value?
Better than almost anything else on a transom. The boats they are fitted to are expensive and demand for repower engines is strong, which keeps used prices firm.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
