New Mercury 50HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a new Mercury 50HP four stroke outboard online, a 2024 engine on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start, remote steering and power trim and tilt. Buying new at this size is a straightforward proposition: full factory warranty registered in your name, no service history to investigate, no corrosion to inspect and no question about what the previous owner did with it. Fifty horsepower is the workhorse of the aluminum boat and small pontoon fleet, and a new Mercury 50 comes with the widest dealer service network in the country behind it. Order it from this page, or send the hull model and transom measurement and we will confirm the fit before you pay.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
New or used Mercury 50HP outboard: which to buy
The honest version of this comparison, from a dealer that sells both.
New gets you factory warranty registered in your name, a known history, and an engine nobody has run aground. On a 50HP that warranty is a meaningful part of the value, because the engine costs less than the labor on a major repair.
Used gets you the same horsepower for considerably less, and at this size the engines are simple enough that a good used one is a low risk purchase if the compression is right.
The deciding question is usually how long you intend to keep the boat. Buying new and keeping it a decade is sound. Buying new and selling in three years is paying for depreciation you will not get back. We have the 2023 Mercury 50HP tiller and a used remote 50 if you want the other side of it.

Ordering a new Mercury 50
Warranty is registered in your name on the day of dispatch. Ask us to confirm the current term and what extension is available before you order.
Remote engines need a control box, cables and a harness. If your boat is not already rigged for a Mercury, tell us what is there now and we will list what the installation needs rather than let you find out later.
Mercury 50HP warranty: what it covers
Buying new means warranty, and it is worth understanding what that is before you rely on it.
Cover starts from the date of dispatch and is registered in your name, which is what makes it valid. We do that registration rather than leaving it to you.
What it covers is manufacturing defect. What it does not cover is damage from running the engine without water, corrosion from a boat kept in salt and never flushed, or anything caused by missing the scheduled services.
That last point is the practical one. Keep the service record and the cover stays intact. Skip services and a claim becomes an argument you will probably lose.
Ask us to confirm the current term and what extension is available before you order, and we will put it in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Should I buy a new or used 50HP outboard?
New if you intend to keep the boat a long time, because the warranty is worth a lot on an engine where labor outweighs parts. Used if you want the same horsepower for less and the compression figures check out.
What warranty comes with a new Mercury 50HP?
Mercury factory cover, registered in your name on the day of dispatch. Ask us to confirm the current term and what extension is available before you order.
What size boat is a 50HP outboard for?
Usually a 14 to 18 foot aluminum fishing boat, a small pontoon or a light runabout. Check the capacity plate on your transom first.
Does a new Mercury 50 come with controls?
Remote engines need a control box, cables and a harness, which are specified against the boat. Tell us what is on your helm now and we will list exactly what the installation needs.
How is a 50HP outboard delivered?
Crated on curbside freight, quoted by weight and destination. Even a 50 is heavy enough that it does not go by parcel carrier.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
Warranty
New Mercury outboards carry the full 3 years Mercury limited warranty for private recreational use, 1 year for commercial use. We register the warranty in your name on the day of dispatch and the certificate ships inside the crate.
Warranty work can be carried out at any authorized Mercury dealer in the United States. You are not tied to us for servicing, and buying online does not shorten or void the factory cover.
The serial number on this listing, 2B4-8643224, is the unit that ships to you. It appears on your invoice and on the warranty registration.
3 years, extendable to 8 years
Extended service cover can be added within the first year. Ask the sales desk to add it to your invoice.
