New 2024 Mercury 90HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a new Mercury 90HP four stroke outboard online, a 2024 engine on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start, remote steering and power trim and tilt. Ninety horsepower is the most ordered size in the aluminum boat and pontoon market, and buying new means factory warranty registered in your name plus the densest dealer service network in the United States for whatever the next decade brings. This is one of two new Mercury 90s in stock, both 20 inch remote steering engines, and we will tell you plainly what separates them if you ask. Order it from this page, or send your hull model and transom measurement and we will confirm the fit first.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
Buy a new Mercury 90HP outboard for a repower
Most 90s are sold as repowers rather than on new boats, and a repower has costs beyond the engine that are worth planning before you order.
Controls and cables are the first, if the boat is not already rigged for Mercury. The propeller is the second, and it has to be pitched to the hull rather than carried over from whatever was there. Gauges are the third, and on a modern engine they may need to talk digitally.
None of that is difficult, but all of it is cheaper to establish now than to discover in a yard. Send us what is on the boat and we will list it.

Choosing a propeller for a 90HP outboard
A propeller is not an accessory at this size, it is a tuning decision, and the wrong one costs you performance the engine has already paid for.
Pitch is the variable. Too much and the engine never reaches its rated revs, which loads it and burns fuel. Too little and it revs out before the boat reaches speed.
Send us the boat length, the weight you typically carry and what you use it for, and we will pitch it rather than guess. It is a five minute conversation that decides whether the repower feels right.
Where a 90HP repower makes sense
Aluminum fishing boats from 17 to 19 feet, pontoons from 20 to 24 feet, and small bay boats. Check the capacity plate and stay at or under the maximum rating.
The other new 90 in stock is the 2026 Mercury 90HP. Same configuration, different year and price.
Fitting a new Mercury 90HP to an older boat
Fitting a current engine to a boat that has been around a while is the most common repower there is, and three things are worth checking before you order.
The transom itself. Look for softness, cracking around the existing bolt holes and any sign of water in the core. A tired transom will not hold a new engine safely and it is far cheaper to find now.
The fuel system. Older tanks and lines can be full of debris that a modern engine with fine filtration will not tolerate, and the first symptom is a blocked filter on the water.
The steering. Cables stiffen with age and a new engine will not fix that.
None of it is a reason not to repower, but all of it is better known in advance than discovered on the first trip out.
Frequently asked questions
What do I need for a 90HP repower besides the engine?
Usually controls and cables if the boat is not already rigged for Mercury, a propeller pitched to your hull, and gauges that can talk to the engine. Send us what is on the boat and we will list it before you order.
What propeller does a Mercury 90HP need?
By pitch, against the boat and the load you carry. Too much pitch and the engine cannot reach rated revs. Too little and it revs out early. Tell us the boat and the use and we will pitch it for you.
What size boat is a 90HP outboard for?
A 17 to 19 foot aluminum fishing boat, a 20 to 24 foot pontoon, or a small bay boat. The capacity plate on your transom is what decides it.
Is this Mercury 90HP new or used?
Yes, new with Mercury factory cover registered in your name on the day of dispatch. Ask us to confirm the current term before you order.
How is a 90HP outboard shipped?
Crated on curbside liftgate freight, quoted by weight and destination. It is heavy enough that parcel delivery is not an option.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
Warranty
New Mercury outboards carry the full 3 years Mercury limited warranty for private recreational use, 1 year for commercial use. We register the warranty in your name on the day of dispatch and the certificate ships inside the crate.
Warranty work can be carried out at any authorized Mercury dealer in the United States. You are not tied to us for servicing, and buying online does not shorten or void the factory cover.
The serial number on this listing, 2B4-5113509, is the unit that ships to you. It appears on your invoice and on the warranty registration.
3 years, extendable to 8 years
Extended service cover can be added within the first year. Ask the sales desk to add it to your invoice.
