Used 2024 Mercury 60HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Mercury 60HP outboard for sale online, a 2024 four stroke on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start, remote steering and power trim and tilt. Sixty horsepower is the size that gets chosen when 50 is not quite enough and 90 is more engine than the hull is rated for, and it is one of the most common repowers on aluminum boats and pontoons. A one year old Mercury 60 has taken the first depreciation step already and has effectively all of its working life still ahead of it. Order this Mercury 60 outboard from the page, or send us your hull model and transom measurement and we will confirm the fit before you pay.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
Buy a used Mercury 60HP outboard, one year old
Buying an engine a year after somebody else bought it new is the least risky way to buy used. There is no generation gap, no obsolete rigging and nothing in the history you cannot ask about directly.
What it gets you is the steepest part of the depreciation curve, which on outboards happens in the first year or two.
What to ask for is short: the ECU hours, whether the first scheduled service was done, and whether it lived in salt or fresh water. On an engine this young those three answers are the whole picture.

Is 60HP the right size for your boat
Sixty horsepower suits aluminum fishing boats from about 16 to 18 feet, pontoons up to around 20 feet, and small runabouts. It is the step that gets a loaded hull on plane when a 50 is working hard to do it.
The capacity plate on your transom settles it. Aim within about ten percent of the maximum rating: an underpowered hull burns more fuel and wears the engine harder than a correctly rated one.
If the plate allows more, the 2026 Mercury 90HP is the next step up. If less, the Mercury 50HP is the size below.

Local availability at this size depends entirely on what came in on trade, and a specific year and configuration is rarely what is sitting there.
This one ships crated on curbside liftgate freight, quoted by weight and destination. Browse the rest on Mercury outboards for sale.
Flushing a Mercury 60HP, and why it decides the life
On any engine that touches salt or brackish water, this one habit separates a motor that lasts fifteen years from one that is finished in six.
Salt left in the cooling passages does not evaporate harmlessly. It crystallises, builds up and corrodes from the inside, and by the time it shows as a weak telltale the damage is done.
Flushing takes ten minutes with a hose and muffs or a built in connector. Do it after every saltwater trip without exception, not after the ones where you remember.
When you are buying used, this is the question worth asking, because it tells you more about the engine than the hour meter does. Ask us about this one and we will tell you what we know about how it lived.
Frequently asked questions
Is a one year old used outboard a good buy?
It is the lowest risk way to buy used. No generation gap, no obsolete rigging, and the steepest depreciation already taken by somebody else. Ask for the ECU hours and whether the first service was done on time.
What size boat needs a 60HP outboard?
Usually a 16 to 18 foot aluminum fishing boat, a pontoon up to about 20 feet, or a small runabout. Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate before ordering.
Is 60HP much better than 50HP?
On a loaded hull, noticeably. Sixty gets a boat on plane that a 50 has to work for, which matters with passengers and gear aboard. The capacity plate decides whether you can fit it.
How many hours are on this Mercury 60?
The listing did not state a figure. We read it from the ECU before shipping and will send you that reading with compression on every cylinder.
Does this Mercury 60HP come with controls and a propeller?
Ask before you order. Remote engines need a control box, cables and a harness, and whether they are included changes the real cost of the repower.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
