New 2026 Mercury 90HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a new Mercury 90HP four stroke outboard online, a 2026 engine on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start, remote steering and power trim and tilt. Ninety horsepower is the top of the aluminum boat and pontoon range and the bottom of the bay boat range, which makes it one of the most ordered sizes in the country. A new Mercury 90 arrives with factory warranty registered in your name and the widest dealer service network in the United States behind it. If you are repowering a hull rated for 90, this is the straightforward way to do it. Order it from this page, or send the hull model and transom measurement and we will confirm the fit before you pay.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
Buy a new Mercury 90HP outboard
Ninety horsepower sits at a useful crossover. It is the most a lot of aluminum hulls and pontoons are rated for, and the least a small bay boat wants, which means it serves two quite different fleets.
On a pontoon it turns a boat that moves into a boat that pulls a tube. On a 17 or 18 foot aluminum fishing hull it plane loaded without working. On a small bay boat it is the entry point to proper coastal use.
Buying new at this size means factory cover on an engine you will probably keep for a decade, which is the main argument for it over a good used one.

What size boat takes a 90HP outboard
Aluminum fishing boats from 17 to 19 feet, pontoons from about 20 to 24 feet, and small bay boats and skiffs.
On a pontoon, check the rating carefully: pontoon transoms vary more than you would expect and the difference between a 60 and a 90 rated hull is structural, not just a number on a plate.
Send us the hull model and the transom measurement and we will confirm before you order.
Two new Mercury 90s in stock: which one
There is also a 2024 Mercury 90HP in stock, new, at a different price. Both are 20 inch remote steering engines.
The difference is the model year and what each cost us, not the specification. Tell us which matters to you and we will be straight about it. The rest of the range is on Mercury outboards for sale.
Buying a Mercury 90HP for a pontoon repower
A large share of 90s go onto pontoons, and pontoons behave differently from the aluminum fishing boats that take the same engine.
The first difference is weight. A pontoon carries people, and the difference between four aboard and ten is enormous relative to the hull. An engine that feels adequate empty can be working hard loaded.
The second is the transom rating, which on pontoons varies far more than people expect. Two boats the same length can be rated very differently depending on how the transom is built, so check the plate rather than assuming.
The third is propeller choice. Pontoons want a prop that gets the hull moving under load rather than one chosen for top speed. Tell us the boat, the length and how many people you usually carry.
Frequently asked questions
What size boat needs a 90HP outboard?
Typically a 17 to 19 foot aluminum fishing boat, a 20 to 24 foot pontoon, or a small bay boat. Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate before ordering.
Is 90HP enough for a pontoon?
For most family pontoons, yes, and it is enough to pull a tube on a 20 to 22 foot boat. Larger or heavily loaded pontoons want more, if the transom is rated for it.
What warranty comes with a new Mercury 90?
Mercury factory cover, registered in your name on the day of dispatch. Ask us to confirm the current term and what extension is available.
Why are there two new Mercury 90s at different prices?
Different model years and different acquisition costs, not different specifications. Both are 20 inch remote steering four strokes. Ask us and we will explain the difference on the two specific engines.
Do I need new controls for a 90HP repower?
If your boat is not already rigged for a Mercury, probably. Tell us what is at the helm now and we will list exactly what the installation needs before you order.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
Warranty
New Mercury outboards carry the full 3 years Mercury limited warranty for private recreational use, 1 year for commercial use. We register the warranty in your name on the day of dispatch and the certificate ships inside the crate.
Warranty work can be carried out at any authorized Mercury dealer in the United States. You are not tied to us for servicing, and buying online does not shorten or void the factory cover.
The serial number on this listing, 2B4-4916923, is the unit that ships to you. It appears on your invoice and on the warranty registration.
3 years, extendable to 8 years
Extended service cover can be added within the first year. Ask the sales desk to add it to your invoice.
