New Mercury 300HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a new Mercury 300HP four stroke outboard online, on a 30 inch offshore shaft and shipped nationwide. Three hundred horsepower is where offshore single engine boats and twin rigs in the low thirties live, and the 30 inch shaft puts this one on tall transom or bracketed hulls specifically. Buying a Mercury 300 outboard brings the largest dealer service network in the country with it, which is the practical argument for the brand once the engine is on the transom and something needs looking at. Order it from this page, or send the hull model, the transom measurement and your existing helm setup and we will confirm rigging before anything ships.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an offshore shaft, 30in.
Buy a new Mercury 300HP outboard
At 300 horsepower you are choosing between three or four engines that will all do the job, and the deciding factor is usually not the specification sheet.
It is who can service it. Mercury has the densest dealer coverage in the United States, which means a water pump, a trim ram or a diagnostic session is a short drive rather than a project. Over ten years of ownership that is worth more than a few horsepower either way.
The second factor is rigging. If your boat already runs Mercury controls and displays, staying with the brand removes an entire category of cost and compatibility risk from the repower.

What takes a 30 inch Mercury 300 outboard
Tall transom offshore hulls and boats running a setback bracket, as a single or as one of a pair on larger boats.
Measure the transom from the top straight down to the hull bottom at the centerline before ordering. Twenty five inches is the more common offshore length and needs a different engine. The full chart is on the long shaft outboard motors page.
Ordering a new Mercury 300
Freight is crated and quoted by weight and destination at checkout. A 300 is a substantial shipment, so it goes curbside on a liftgate truck rather than by parcel carrier.
If you are repowering a twin rig, tell us what is on the transom now. Rotation and control architecture have to match, and it is cheaper to establish that before the engine ships than after. Browse the rest on Mercury outboards for sale.
What propeller a Mercury 300HP needs
At this output the propeller is a tuning decision worth taking seriously, because the wrong one wastes a significant amount of engine.
Pitch sets whether the engine reaches its rated revs with your boat loaded as you use it. Held below its band, a 300 runs hot and burns fuel for performance you never see.
Blade count and geometry change the character. More blades generally means better grip and a smoother ride at the cost of some top end; fewer means the opposite.
Stainless is the norm at this size, because the loads are high enough that aluminum flexes and gives some of the power back.
Tell us the hull, the weight you carry and how you use the boat, and we will specify it rather than send whatever is in the box.
Frequently asked questions
What size boat needs a Mercury 300HP outboard?
Usually a 26 to 30 foot offshore hull as a single, or one of a pair on larger boats. Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate before you order.
Why buy a Mercury rather than another brand?
Service coverage. Mercury has the densest dealer network in the United States, which matters most when something needs attention years after the sale. If your boat already runs Mercury controls, staying with the brand also removes rigging risk.
What boats take a 30 inch Mercury 300HP?
Tall transom offshore hulls and bracketed installations. It is the least common shaft length in the market, so measure your transom rather than assuming.
Is this Mercury 300 a Verado or a Pro XS?
The listing did not state a series, so it is not claimed here. Ask and we will confirm which line this engine is from before you order.
How is a 300HP outboard delivered?
Crated on curbside liftgate freight, quoted by weight and destination. It is several hundred pounds, so it does not ship by parcel carrier.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
Warranty
New Mercury outboards carry the full 3 years Mercury limited warranty for private recreational use, 1 year for commercial use. We register the warranty in your name on the day of dispatch and the certificate ships inside the crate.
Warranty work can be carried out at any authorized Mercury dealer in the United States. You are not tied to us for servicing, and buying online does not shorten or void the factory cover.
The serial number on this listing, 2B4-6610051, is the unit that ships to you. It appears on your invoice and on the warranty registration.
3 years, extendable to 8 years
Extended service cover can be added within the first year. Ask the sales desk to add it to your invoice.
