Used Evinrude Etec 25HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Evinrude E-TEC 25HP outboard for sale online, a 2010 direct injected two stroke on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start and tiller steering. E-TEC engines are the reason serious people still buy two strokes: direct injection gave them modern emissions while keeping the light weight and mechanical simplicity that four strokes gave up. This is a 25HP tiller engine for jon boats, skiffs and small aluminum hulls, in the configuration most of them want. There are two E-TEC 25s in stock at different prices and we will explain the difference honestly if you ask. Order this one from the page, or ask for compression figures and photographs first.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
Two Evinrude E-TEC 25s in stock: which one
We hold two E-TEC 25 horsepower engines and the older one is the dearer of the two, which is worth explaining rather than leaving as an oddity.
Used engine prices are set by what each one cost to acquire and what condition and equipment came with it, not by a formula applied to year and hours. Two engines of the same model reach the market from completely different situations.
The other is the 2014 Evinrude E-TEC 25HP with 50 recorded hours.
Ask us what each one includes and what condition each is in, and we will give you a straight comparison rather than steer you to whichever we would rather move.

Why buy a direct injected two stroke
The case for an E-TEC over a four stroke of the same output comes down to three things.
Weight. A two stroke is meaningfully lighter at 25 horsepower, which on an aluminum boat affects how the hull sits and how easily it planes.
Simplicity. No valve train, no cam, no oil changes. Fewer things that need a workshop.
Starting. Direct injected two strokes start readily in cold weather, which matters more than people expect on an early season morning.
Against that: Evinrude is discontinued, and E-TEC diagnostics need a dealer with the right software.
What boats an Evinrude E-TEC 25HP tiller suits
Jon boats, small aluminum fishing hulls, skiffs and inflatables, where the deck space matters and the boat is run from the stern.
A 20 inch long shaft suits a standard transom rather than a low jon boat one. Measure from the top of the transom straight down to the hull bottom at the centerline, and browse 2-stroke outboard motors for the rest.
What an Evinrude E-TEC 25 costs to run
Direct injection changed what a two stroke costs to run, and the numbers are worth understanding rather than assuming the old ones apply.
A carburetted two stroke burns oil at a fixed ratio whatever it is doing, because the oil is in the fuel. An E-TEC meters it according to load and engine speed, so at idle and cruise it uses a fraction of what an old engine would.
The practical result is that you refill an oil tank occasionally rather than mixing every tank of fuel, and the annual oil bill is far closer to a four stroke than to an old two stroke.
Fuel economy follows the same logic: nothing escapes unburned out of the exhaust port, so consumption is competitive with a four stroke rather than dramatically worse.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this Evinrude E-TEC priced above the newer one?
Used prices are set by acquisition cost, condition and what came with each engine, not by year and hours alone. Ask us what each includes and we will give you a straight comparison.
Are Evinrude E-TEC outboards reliable?
They have a solid record and long service intervals by design. The real consideration is that Evinrude stopped production in 2020, so diagnostics need a dealer with the right software.
Is an Evinrude E-TEC lighter than a four stroke?
Yes, meaningfully at 25 horsepower. On an aluminum hull that weight difference affects how the boat sits and how easily it planes.
Do Evinrude E-TEC outboards need oil changes?
No. There is no valve train or crankcase oil to change. Oil is injected and consumed, at a small fraction of the rate an old mixed fuel two stroke used.
What size boat takes an Evinrude 25HP tiller?
Jon boats, small aluminum fishing hulls, skiffs and inflatables. It will plane a small boat with two people aboard.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
Warranty
This used Evinrude is compression tested, run on the dyno and listed with its hour count and service history. It carries a ninety day parts and labor warranty from us unless the balance of factory cover runs longer.
Warranty work can be carried out at any authorized Evinrude dealer in the United States. You are not tied to us for servicing, and buying online does not shorten or void the factory cover.
