Used Evinrude E-TEC 25HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Evinrude E-TEC 25HP outboard for sale online, a 2014 engine on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start, tiller steering and 50 recorded hours. E-TEC is not an ordinary two stroke: it is direct injected, which is how Evinrude kept two strokes legal and competitive long after carburetted ones were pushed out. The result is an engine with two stroke weight and simplicity, four stroke emissions, and no valve train to service. Fifty hours is nothing. For anyone who wants a light 25HP tiller engine and understands what E-TEC is, this is an unusually good buy. Order it from the page, or ask us for compression figures and photographs first.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
What makes an E-TEC different from an ordinary two stroke
This matters, because most of what people know about two strokes does not apply to an E-TEC.
A conventional two stroke mixes oil with fuel and loses some of both out of the exhaust port, which is where the smoke, the smell and the fuel consumption come from. E-TEC injects fuel directly into the cylinder after the port closes, so almost none of it escapes unburned.
What that gets you: emissions that met the rules that killed other two strokes, far less smoke, better fuel economy than a carburetted two stroke, and oil used at a fraction of the old rate.
What it keeps: two stroke weight, which is meaningfully lighter than a four stroke at the same output, and no valve train, no cam belt and no oil changes.
Evinrude stopped production in 2020, which is the only real mark against these engines.

Servicing an E-TEC now Evinrude has gone
The honest position: BRP committed to service parts through its dealer network, and E-TEC service intervals were long by design.
What to establish before buying is who near you will work on one. E-TEC diagnostics need the right software, and not every independent mechanic has it. A four stroke of the same size can be fixed anywhere.
For an engine with 50 hours that will do light recreational work, that risk is small. For a boat that needs to be reliable for a business, weigh it properly.
The other E-TEC in stock is the 2010 Evinrude E-TEC 25HP.
What an E-TEC 25 tiller engine drives
Jon boats, small aluminum hulls, skiffs and inflatables. Twenty five horsepower plane a small boat with two aboard, and the lighter weight of a two stroke helps on an aluminum transom.
A 20 inch long shaft suits a standard transom. Measure before ordering, and see tiller outboard motors for more at this size.
E-TEC servicing: what the schedule actually is
One of the arguments for these engines is how little they ask, and it is worth being specific rather than vague about it.
There is no engine oil to change and no valve train to adjust, because there is neither. Oil is injected and consumed, so you top up a tank rather than drain a sump.
What remains is gear oil, the water pump, plugs, anodes and the fuel filter, on intervals that are long by outboard standards.
The one thing that does need a dealer is diagnostics, which requires current software rather than a multimeter.
So the ownership question on an E-TEC is not how much servicing it needs. It is who can plug into it when something needs investigating. Find that out locally before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
What is an Evinrude E-TEC?
A direct injected two stroke. Fuel is injected into the cylinder after the exhaust port closes, so very little escapes unburned. That gave it four stroke emissions with two stroke weight and no valve train.
Is an E-TEC better than a four stroke?
It is lighter and simpler with no oil changes or valve train, and it meets modern emissions. The trade is that Evinrude stopped production in 2020, so servicing needs a dealer with the right diagnostics.
Do E-TEC outboards smoke?
Far less than a carburetted two stroke, because the fuel is injected after the port closes. Oil consumption is also a fraction of the old mixed fuel rate.
Can E-TEC engines still be serviced?
BRP committed to service parts through its dealer network, but diagnostics need the right software, which not every independent mechanic has. Check who near you can work on one before buying.
Is 50 hours low for a 2014 Evinrude E-TEC?
Very low. Barely run in. On a low hour engine of this age the question is storage rather than wear: whether it sat with fuel in it and whether it was serviced anyway.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
