Used Yamaha 250 V6 4.2 250HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Yamaha 250HP V6 4.2 liter outboard for sale online, a 2024 engine with 106 recorded hours. This is the current generation offshore Yamaha 250, barely a season old and barely used, which puts it in a narrow part of the market: buyers who want a nearly new Yamaha 250 outboard without paying the new price. The 4.2 liter V6 is the engine that anchors Yamaha offshore, and this one has 106 hours against a working life measured in thousands. Order it from this page, or send your transom height and hull model first and we will confirm the fit before you pay.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an extra long shaft, 25in.
Buy a nearly new used Yamaha 250 outboard
A 2024 engine with 106 hours is a different proposition from most used outboards. There is no generation gap to work around, no obsolete rigging to adapt and no question about parts.
What there is, is somebody else having taken the first hit on a new engine price. That is the entire reason to buy a lightly used Yamaha 250HP outboard rather than a new one, and at this age it is the largest single saving available in the whole used market.
Ask for the service record. At 106 hours the first scheduled service matters more than anything else, and whether it was done on time tells you how the boat was looked after.
Yamaha 250 V6 4.2 specs on this outboard
The 4.2 liter V6 is the displacement that distinguishes the offshore Yamaha 250 from the lighter performance engines at the same output. More displacement means more torque low down, which is what a loaded offshore hull needs to plane.

What a 25 inch Yamaha 250 outboard suits
Offshore center consoles from about 24 to 28 feet as a single, and it is one of the most common choices as one of a pair on larger hulls. Twenty five inches is the offshore transom standard.
If you are replacing one engine of two, check rotation and rigging compatibility against what is already fitted before you order. Send us the existing engine details and we will confirm.
Yamaha 250 outboard price: new against lightly used
The gap between a new Yamaha 250 and a one season old one with double figure hours is the largest depreciation step the engine will ever take, and it happens in the first year.
Against that, a used engine of this age usually retains the balance of factory cover, which is worth confirming for your specific unit before you order rather than assuming it.
Cross shop the 2021 Yamaha 300HP if your hull is rated higher, or the 2013 Yamaha VF250LA if the boat is lighter and the budget matters more.
Buying one Yamaha 250 for a twin rig repower
Plenty of buyers at this output are replacing one engine of a pair rather than starting fresh, and that changes what to check before ordering.
Rotation comes first. A twin installation runs one standard and one counter rotating gearcase to cancel steering torque, so the replacement has to match the position it is going into rather than just the boat.
Then control architecture. An engine of this year expects digital throttle and shift, and if the engine staying on the transom is older mechanical, the two will not share a control head. That is the cost that catches people out.
Last, the mismatch itself. A new engine beside a worn one wears differently and services on a different schedule, which is the argument for replacing both at once if the budget reaches.
Send us what is on the transom now and we will tell you honestly whether one engine solves it.
Frequently asked questions
Is 106 hours low for a 2024 Yamaha 250?
Yes, that is roughly one light season. On an engine rated to run past 3,000 hours it has barely started, which is why lightly used engines of this age are the strongest value in the used market.
Does a used 2024 Yamaha 250 still have warranty?
It often retains the balance of factory cover, but that depends on the individual engine and its registration history. Ask us to confirm what remains on this specific unit before you order rather than assuming.
What is the difference between the Yamaha 250 V6 4.2 and the V MAX SHO 250?
Displacement and purpose. The 4.2 liter V6 is the offshore engine, built to push loaded hulls at cruise. The V MAX SHO is lighter and geared for acceleration on bass and bay boats.
What size boat takes a Yamaha 250HP outboard?
Typically a 24 to 28 foot offshore center console as a single, or as one of a pair on larger boats. Check the capacity plate on your transom and stay at or below the maximum rating.
Will this 25 inch Yamaha 250 fit my transom?
Only if it measures about 25 inches from the top straight down to the hull bottom at the centerline. Twenty inches needs a long shaft engine. Send the measurement and hull model and we will confirm before you pay.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
