Used Yamaha Pair 250HP 250HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a matched pair of used Yamaha 250HP outboards for sale online, twin 2018 four strokes on 25 inch extra long shafts. Buying twin outboards as a matched pair solves the problem that makes repowering a twin rig expensive: two engines of the same model, same year and the same hours, which is what you want on a transom and what almost never turns up buying one at a time. Order the pair from this page, or send the hull model, the transom height and details of your existing rigging and we will confirm the fit before you pay. They ship crated on curbside freight.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an extra long shaft, 25in.
Why buy twin outboards as a matched pair
Repowering a twin rig one engine at a time is how most people end up with a mismatched transom, and it costs more than it looks.
Two engines of different years run different electronics, sometimes different rigging standards, and always different wear. They idle differently, they trim differently and they age differently, which means service intervals stop lining up and the boat never quite settles.
A matched pair removes all of that. Same model, same year, same hours, same rigging, one set of parts to stock and one service schedule to keep.
It also solves the rotation question. Twin installations need counter rotating gearcases to cancel torque, and buying a pair means the rotation is already sorted rather than something to hunt for on the second engine.

What boats run twin Yamaha 250HP outboards
Offshore center consoles and express hulls from roughly 28 to 36 feet, where 500 horsepower total is the sensible rating and where redundancy matters because of how far offshore the boat goes.
That redundancy is the other reason people run twins. Two engines mean a way home if one stops, which on a boat fishing thirty miles out is worth the extra fuel burn and the extra service bill.
Buying used twin outboards online
Matched pairs are the hardest thing to find in the used outboard market because they only come up when a whole boat is repowered or broken up. A local yard almost never has them.
These ship crated on curbside liftgate freight, quoted by weight and destination, and the freight on two engines is worth quoting before you commit. Larger options are the 2011 Yamaha Pair F350 and the 2017 Yamaha Pair F300, and the full range is on Yamaha outboard motors.
Freight and rigging on a pair of Yamaha 250s
Two engines is a different shipment from one, and worth planning before you commit rather than after.
Freight is quoted on the whole consignment. Send us the delivery address and we will price the pair up front, including whether a liftgate is needed at your end, because two crated 250s are not something to unload by hand.
On the rigging side, a pair needs matched controls, two harnesses, two sets of gauges or a compatible display, and steering rated for twin engines. If you are replacing an existing pair like for like, most of that carries over. If you are moving from a single, almost none of it does.
Tell us what the boat has now and we will list what the installation actually needs.
Frequently asked questions
Why buy twin outboards as a matched pair?
Because same model, same year, same hours means one service schedule, one set of parts and a transom that behaves consistently. Buying one at a time leaves you with mismatched electronics, wear and rigging.
Do twin Yamaha 250 outboards need counter rotation?
Twin installations normally run one standard and one counter rotating gearcase to cancel steering torque. Buying a pair means that is already resolved. Confirm rotation against your existing setup before ordering.
What size boat needs twin Yamaha 250HP outboards?
Typically a 28 to 36 foot offshore center console or express hull. Five hundred total horsepower is the rating for that size, and redundancy is the second reason people run twins.
Is 200 hours high for a pair of 2018 Yamahas?
No. On four strokes rated past 3,000 hours, 200 is light use spread across several seasons. On a pair, what matters as much is that both engines carry the same hours, which is what a matched pair gives you.
How much is freight on a pair of Yamaha 250s?
It is quoted by weight and destination, and two engines cost more than one to ship. Send your zip code and we will quote the pair before you order.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
