Used Yamaha Triple 250HP 250HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used triple Yamaha 250HP outboard package online, three matched 250 horsepower four strokes on 25 inch extra long shafts. A triple rig is bought for one of two reasons, and usually both: 750 horsepower on a large offshore hull, and the ability to come home on two engines when one stops. Buying three matched engines together is the only sensible way to do it, because a triple with mismatched years and hours is a rigging and service problem that never goes away. Order the package from this page, or send the hull model and your existing setup and we will work through rotation, controls and rigging with you before anything is confirmed.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is an extra long shaft, 25in.
Buying a triple outboard rig: what to settle first
Three engines is not simply one more than two. It changes the rigging, the controls, the electrical load and the way the boat handles at low speed.
Rotation is the first question. A triple normally runs a specific combination of standard and counter rotating gearcases, and getting it wrong shows up as steering load rather than as an obvious fault.
Controls are the second. Three engines usually mean digital throttle and shift, and the control head, harnesses and displays need to match the engines rather than be adapted to them.
Charging and batteries are the third. Three alternators and three starting circuits are a different electrical design from a single, and it is worth planning before the engines land rather than after.

Hours and model year were not stated on this listing. Ask for the ECU reading on all three engines and compression figures before you commit: on a used triple the engines rarely wear identically.
What boats run triple 250HP outboards
Offshore center consoles and sportfishing hulls from roughly 33 to 42 feet, where the transom is wide enough to carry three and the boat is used far enough out that redundancy is not optional.
Seven hundred and fifty horsepower is the point of it, but so is getting home. A triple can lose an engine a long way out and still cruise, which is the argument that sells most of them.
Ordering a triple outboard package
Three engines is a freight job rather than a delivery, and it is quoted by weight and destination before anything is confirmed.
Talk to us before you order. Send the hull model, the transom measurement and what is currently on the boat, and we will confirm rotation, controls and rigging. Smaller multi engine options are the Yamaha Pair 250HP and the Yamaha Pair F350.
Buying a used triple: what to verify first
On a used multi engine set the engines are only part of what you are buying, and the rest is worth establishing in writing.
Ask for hours and compression on each engine separately. Three motors off the same boat have usually run the same hours, but the outer positions work differently from the center and they do not always wear together.
Ask what rigging is included. On a triple the controls, harnesses, displays and steering are a significant share of the value, and whether they come with the engines changes what the package is worth.
Ask about rotation for each position, because a triple runs a specific combination and the engines are not interchangeable between mounts.
We will confirm all of it before anything ships. Send the hull details and what is currently on the transom.
Frequently asked questions
What size boat needs triple 250HP outboards?
Usually a 33 to 42 foot offshore center console or sportfishing hull. The transom has to be wide enough to carry three engines and the boat has to be rated for 750 horsepower.
Why buy triple Yamaha 250s instead of two bigger engines?
Redundancy and spread. Three engines let you lose one a long way offshore and still cruise home, and they spread thrust across a wide transom better than two larger motors.
How does rotation work on a triple Yamaha 250 rig?
A triple runs a specific combination of standard and counter rotating gearcases to balance steering load. It has to be specified against the boat, which is why a triple is worth confirming with us before ordering.
Do triple Yamaha 250 outboards need digital controls?
In practice yes. Three engines are normally run on digital throttle and shift, with a control head, harnesses and displays matched to the engines rather than adapted from an older analogue setup.
How are three Yamaha 250 outboards delivered?
Crated on freight, quoted by weight and destination. It is a significant shipment, so send your zip code and we will quote it before you order.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
