Used Evinrude Intruder 150HP Outboard for Sale
Buy a used Evinrude 150HP two stroke outboard for sale online, an Intruder on a 20 inch long shaft with electric start, remote steering and power trim and tilt. One hundred and fifty horsepower is the most cross shopped output on the water, and this is the cheapest way into it that still involves a running engine with power trim and remote controls. Big two strokes are light, simple and inexpensive to repair, and plenty are still working boats hard every season. What decides whether this one is a bargain or a mistake is compression, and we have the figures. Order it from the page, or ask us for those numbers and photographs before you decide.
Supplied with
- Engine, cowling and mounting hardware, factory assembled
- Owner manual, warranty booklet and registration certificate
- Propeller not included on engines from 40hp up, pitched to order on request
- Remote control box, cables and rigging tube available as an add on
- First service kit available at checkout, oil filter and gear oil
Not sure on shaft length
Measure vertically from the top of the transom to the lowest point of the hull. Fifteen inches takes a short shaft, twenty inches a long shaft, twenty five inches an extra long. This engine is a long shaft, 20in.
Buy a 150HP outboard at a fraction of four stroke money
A used four stroke 150 costs several times what this does. The difference is not a hidden fault, it is three known things.
It is a two stroke, which the market has moved away from on fuel and emissions. It is old. And the brand stopped being made in 2020, so there is no badge premium.
What you get in exchange is a simple engine: no valve train, no cam, no complex electronics. When a big two stroke goes wrong it is usually cheap to put right and any competent mechanic can diagnose it.
For a weekend boat on a lake or a river, that is a sound trade. For a boat that runs long hours offshore, buy the four stroke.

Evinrude Intruder 150: the honest downsides
Worth reading before you order rather than after it arrives.
Fuel consumption is significantly higher than a modern four stroke at the same output, and at 150 horsepower run regularly that is real money.
It is loud, and it smokes on start up. Both are normal for the type and both are noticeable.
Some waters restrict older two strokes on emissions grounds, so check the rules where you boat.
Resale is weak, though you are buying at the bottom of the market so there is not much further to fall.
What boats an Evinrude 150HP outboard suits
Bay boats and center consoles from about 18 to 22 feet, and larger aluminum hulls. A 20 inch shaft fits a standard transom.
Compare against the Johnson GT 150, the other cheap 150 in stock, or the four stroke route with the Yamaha F150.
Evinrude Intruder 150 running costs
It is only fair to set out what this engine costs to own rather than only what it costs to buy, because the two are very different at this output.
Fuel is the big one. A carburetted two stroke at 150 horsepower uses considerably more than a modern four stroke doing identical work, and across a season of regular use that gap is real money.
Oil is the second, since it is consumed rather than changed, and at this size the quantity is not trivial.
Against that, servicing is cheap and simple, parts are inexpensive, and there is no valve train or complex electronics to fail.
For a boat used at weekends the arithmetic favours this engine comfortably. For one used every day it does not, and we would rather say so.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this Evinrude 150HP outboard so cheap?
It is an older two stroke from a discontinued brand. Those two facts set the price, not a hidden fault. Judge it on compression figures, which we record before listing.
Is an Evinrude Intruder 150 expensive to run?
Fuel consumption is significantly higher than a modern four stroke. For weekend use it rarely matters; for long hours it will outweigh what you saved buying it.
Are older Evinrude two strokes restricted on some waters?
Some waters restrict them on emissions grounds, and it varies by state and by individual lake. Check the rules where you boat before buying.
Can I get parts for an Evinrude Intruder?
For common service items, generally yes. The Evinrude and Johnson aftermarket is deep and BRP committed to supplying service parts. Ask about specific parts before committing.
What size boat needs an Evinrude 150HP outboard?
Usually a bay boat or center console from 18 to 22 feet, or a large aluminum hull. Check the maximum rating on your capacity plate first.

Shipping and crating
The engine is bolted upright to a purpose built pallet, braced at the cowling and skinned before it leaves the warehouse. Crates are photographed on the dock and the photographs are attached to your order record.
Freight is curbside by default. The carrier calls ahead to arrange a delivery window, and you will need a second pair of hands or a tractor to take the crate off the truck. Liftgate service and delivery direct to an authorized dealer can both be added at checkout.
Standard transit is five to ten working days depending on zone, express is one to three. Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico are quoted separately.
| Destination zone | Freight on this engine | Transit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard freight | $100 | About a week |
| Express freight | $250 | 1 to 3 days |
